Jack & Jill Contest at the Boogie In Bethesda This fun competition is for all dancers. This is a strictly lead and follow contest that must consist of 100% lead and follow or classic swing movements. The music is chosen at random. Jack & Jill Divisions must have as a leader one male and as a follower one female. This is meant only to avoid a same sex couple gleaning an unfair advantage due to the novelty of such a partnership. We may offer a "Bookends" division from time to time. Partners are drawn at random either by the contestants or by the contest coordinator. If by chance normal partners are put together - we will not switch partners. “Luck of the draw” will prevail. Novice and Advanced Divisions will be offered. We may also offer an All Star Jack & Jill at the en of 2007. That will consist of the areas rising star and professional competitors. General Skill Level Guidelines Novice: Just like it sounds. Dancing less than 2 years and a beginning to intermediate skill level. Not to have exceeded an intermediate level or to have competed elsewhere at an intermediate level or higher. Advanced: Not quite a professional but a skilled intermediate to advanced dancer. Dancing more than 2 years and at least an intermediate level or higher. No professionals please. All Stars: Only by invitation. Dancers must have danced and placed in an open professional or rising star category in order to be invited. Age divisions such as Masters and Sophisticated qualify as long as it was a classic or showcase format. Bookends: Same sex partners only. Lot's of fun. Requires that both dancers lead and follow at some point. Requires the highest understanding of the dance! Jack & Jill may dance to a variety of tempos. This category is judged on lead and follow skill level. If there are an odd number of leads to follows and the number of entries exceeds 12 couples, preliminaries will be judged individually and you will have more than one partner. If the leads and followers are of equal numbers and less than 12 couples, there will be no prelims. Finals will be Judged as a couple. All of the above is subject to change at the discretion of the Chief Judge. 2006 Jack and Jill Finals on Tuesday Feb, 6 2007 Come watch the areas best dancers give it their all for over $1,000 worth of prizes and cash!
